Flow Communications

Flow counts itself fortunate to be able to work alongside a powerful brand like South African Tourism.

Among the many services we provide to South African Tourism, we manage its blog site, making sure it ticks over with strong, diverse, relevant content that promotes South Africa as a tourist destination.

The Flow team works with South African Tourism, as well as a few contracted writers, to ensure this happens.

This involves brainstorming, agreeing on suitable topics, planning a diary, commissioning articles, writing, editing and publishing articles, and conferencing regularly.

All of which takes considerable thought and collaboration. And none of which would be possible without the combined input and efforts of Flow’s Joburg, Cape Town and Durban offices.

Here at Flow we’re proud of the South African Tourism blog site and the work that goes into it – it’s a great advert for the value of the collective when productively harnessed.

Melanie Feris, who heads up the Flow writing studio, gives some perspective: “Flow is in a unique position to be able to collaborate on blogs through our Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg offices. This allows us to write content with a perspective from three great South African tourist cities – be it for business or leisure tourism. It also allows us to be really creative and offer more in-depth blogs.”

Flow editor Keith Nicholls, who helps pull the strings from the Johannesburg office, emphasises the importance of teamwork: “There’s no way we could sustain the volume and quality of the blogs without the substantive input and enthusiasm of all those involved. It really makes my job easier.”

Says regular blog contributor Andrea Weiss: “The SAT blog site has created a wonderful opportunity for all three Flow centres in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg to pitch in to ensure that there's a good geographic spread of content from across the country.

“It's also enabled us to put on our collective thinking cap to come up with creative ideas that will reflect the diversity and breadth of experiences to be had in South Africa, whether you are a first-time international visitor, a multiple returnee or a domestic traveller.”

Flow writer Daphney Mngomeni has really enjoyed the opportunity to flex her writing muscles on the project.

“It has been really interesting working on the South African Tourism blogs. It's one thing to be given a topic to write about and have to have it done in a few days; it's a different story when you're part of the creative process, coming up with topics and working with such a large team to produce multiple blogs on a regular basis,” she says.

“It sounds like simple work, but it's not – it’s challenging, and that drives us to provide quality blogs and dig deep for interesting topics.”

Which is the kind of challenge Flow relishes.
