Flow Communications

Overall, my experience at Flow Communications was amazing – and all other previous interns have most probably been saying the same thing, but I am thirsty for more.

I still have a lot to learn about what happens at a workshop with a client, how the team comes up with ideas and how the team sets up the account thereafter. Flow is an amazing company and I have learned that I could learn much more if I keep on being the ”handbag” of my superiors, tagging along to every meeting with a client.

Firstly, let me talk about Flow Communications, the team.

It should go without saying that the reason why Flow is so successful in everything it does is because it’s family-orientated. The brotherhood and togetherness within Flow provide for a winning formula, even though the company has separate departments. All studios involved in a client’s account take it as seriously as the account director does.

I liked the friendliness of the receptionists and the security guards; they made my life easy. The whole Flow team had the willingness and the patience to teach even a slow learner like me, and I appreciate that.

I would say the PR team is the hardest-working one of all of the teams at Flow. Why do I think so? Well, because I am the author of this blog post, it’s my right to be biased. Secondly, this is the team I worked under and what I learned was that there are no excuses allowed here.

The team leader was the busiest, but she still managed to pay attention to what I was learning as an intern. Caroline Smith, head of PR, is amazing; I was blessed to be taught by her.

She is honest, full of finesse, and very good and creative in everything she looks at. If I could come with the reason why I should stay a little longer, it could be that I want to grasp everything she teaches me. I am hungry for experience, and she is everything I need to get it. Every time she made a judgement call, I would write down possible reasons why she had taken that decision.

At home, every evening, I would rate my day’s performance.

I would ask myself questions like, did I add value to the team? How well did I do in a specific task? Can I improve? Did I keep to deadlines?

After all, I was learning and I believe I still have a long way to go, but I also believe I gave it my all. Sometimes our all might not be good enough, but we live to learn.

Although I am not sure what’s going to happen next for me, I will forever use what I have learned at Flow.

I am still thirsty, though.
