School’s back in swing in all nine provinces – and the new Flow School term has also begun.
Now into its second year, Flow School features a variety of communication courses aimed at helping corporate executives and businesspeople to become better communicators. Programmes are run by a small group of passionate Flowstars, who have many years’ experience in communication, design, programming and training.
“Each course has been designed to enhance delegates’ knowledge about new trends and practices in communications around the world,” explains Flow’s Roshni Nana, who manages and co-ordinates Flow School.
One of Flow’s most successful courses to date is Introduction to Social Networking and Getting you Tweeting on Twitter.
“This course provides an introduction to a few of the more popular social network platforms such as Flickr and Twitter, giving you the chance to engage with other users in an informal setting,” explains Roshni.
She adds that many working people are intimidated by online social networking, and Flow School has helped scores of individuals to overcome their fears and get connected.
“Going through the process with others not only serves as an excellent ice-breaker for networking, it also helps you to see that you’re not alone out there!”
The course outlines the basics of setting up your social networking accounts, building your communities or networks, and ways of using these sites to maximise the benefits of social networking, both for yourself as an individual and for your business.
“These platforms are great tools for brand reputation management, and many of our clients have benefited from the lessons they learnt in our classroom,” says Roshni.
Flow School sessions are conducted by Flow Communications’ CEO Tara Tarkington, MD Tiffany Turkington and Head of Development Richard Frank.
Tara is a seasoned journalist and researcher with 17 years’ experience in writing, editing and designing for newspapers and magazines. She is an enthusiastic social networker herself, and has tons of tips and tricks up her sleeve to help you get yourself up and running like a pro on Flickr, Facebook and Google.
Tiffany’s 15 years’ experience includes lecturing at the Vega Brand Communications School and the Design Centre. She is also an avid social networker with a particular penchant for Twitter.
With an obsession for research and search engines, Richard is a whizz on Google and is able to help clients get the best out of their internet searches to optimise their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies. Although he trained as a journalist, Richard is a true geek at heart. By combining these two passions, he is able to bring the best of both worlds to Flow School.
Courses start at 18h00 and end at 20h30 on scheduled dates. Delegates are offered refreshments (including wine – which is totally optional, but rarely refused), course material and a computer to use for the duration of the class.
You are also welcome to bring your own laptop along to the session.
