Flow Communications

Testament to a collective effort by “the big pink agency”, Flow Communications is officially in the running for 22 New Generation Social & Digital Media Awards for 2017.

“It’s a wonderful affirmation for Flow to be recognised for the wide range of work we produce for our clients,” says Flow chairman Bheki Shongwe. “We are particularly proud of our ability to tailor our services to meet each client’s unique needs.”

Each entry for the prestigious awards is marked by a minimum of four judges, which helps to create a fairer weighting across the entries. Once the judging is completed, the scores given to each entry are tallied up out of a possible 100 points. To become a finalist, entries must score a minimum of 65 points.

Flow’s shortlisted entries comprise work entered in 15 categories on behalf of 13 clients across a range of social and digital projects.

Not only were three times as many entries submitted this year than in 2016, but the quality of work was of a noticeably higher standard, according to the judges.

“We are delighted to be finalists in so many categories at this year’s New Generation Social & Digital Media Awards,” says Flow CEO Tara Turkington. “It’s especially gratifying to have the work of more than a dozen clients represented, which speaks to the quality and breadth of work we produce.”

Flow’s head of digital, Richard Frank, says the nominations prove that Flow offers a consistent level of quality and service.

“It’s also great to see the diversity of digital work nominated, including websites, intranets, e-commerce sites, social media campaigns and management, content marketing, blogging, mobile-application development and digital PR.

“We don’t produce digital to win awards; we produce digital work to support the business goals of our clients. Being nominated is a fantastic by-product of this process.”

While it has never been Flow policy to produce work with awards in mind, over the past three years we’ve garnered 20 New Generation Social & Digital Media Awards – including five golds.

In 2015 and 2016, Flow was the only agency to win awards for work done on behalf of five or more clients. In 2016, we won a gold award for Best App (City Sightseeing) and this year three of our apps – for the African Rock Art Digital Archive, Constitution Hill and the Department of Tourism – have been nominated.

“We believe these awards evaluate the best of the work we are producing for our clients in an increasingly competitive space. The New Generation Awards are becoming the country’s leading awards for digital work and a sought-after accolade within the industry,” says Tara.

This year’s awards ceremony takes place at Montecasino, Fourways, Johannesburg, on 28 September.
