On 28 March each year millions of people around the world raise awareness about climate change by turning off their lights at 20:30. For the second year in a row we played a role in the South African effort, by designing a campaign website for the South African arm of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
Our brief was to create a functional website allowing people to share their events, to join the Earth Hour movement, and for WWF to share information on how climate change is impacting on food, energy and water resources.
The sliding home page header has fantastic images and an embedded campaign video.
We created a toolkit which allows users to download logos, web banners, and social media cover images. The funky artwork was designed by advertising agency Ogilvy&Mather South Africa.
Flow project manager Leanne Pohlmann says campagin website are always a good challenge. "We enjoyed working with WWF on Earth Hour for the second consecutive year," Leanne says.
Leanne explains that there is a fine balance between a call to action and enough supporting information to keep users interested long enough to interact with the campaign.
Flow designer Johan Sadie says lightheartedly that he had had to "fight off fellow designers" to get to work on the project. "Although the timeline was short I think we pulled of a remarkable, functional website. It is always a pleasure to be involved with such a fantastic initiatives," Johan says.
Developer Tinashe Gunda says the project was a challenging one and he learnt a lot. “I enjoyed working on the site as it gave me an opportunity to improve my project management skills,” Tinashe says. He is very proud of the site, which he says is clean, modern and functional. He is especially proud of how clean the code, that is running the site, is.
