Flow Communications

As a relatively new Flowstar who is still learning the ropes, I am amazed by the extent of the work we do. And we have the portfolio to prove it – from public relations for Nando’s to content for the Gauteng Tourism Authority.

Between us Flowstars, there is an abundance of skills and experience. With a little help from Flow Cape Town manager Kate Rau, here are my top 10 things you may not know about Flow:

1. Google AdWords (words by Stuart Buchanan – our resident AdWords guru)

Google AdWords is a great addition to the organic search benefits that Flow has traditionally offered. It allows clients to target certain search keywords and get short, catchy ads in front of a whole lot of new, potential customers. It’s easy to measure the cost-per-click and the conversion to leads, and this makes it a great addition to any sales team’s arsenal.

(If you had a “Say what?” moment reading this, refer to number 3)

2. Media training

Our team of journalists, editors and subeditors are the bee’s knees, and will talk you through the current media landscape and how best to use it to your advantage. Of course, it’s not all theory – there is an interactive, practical component to the training, which will leave you feeling like a “boss”.

(insert Ghostbusters theme tune)

3. Flow School

Let us school you. These sessions are intimate and engaging workshops – ranging from communications to creativity – and made easy to understand. So if you have no idea what SEO stands for or why you don’t tweet @yourself, a Flow School session is a must-do.

4. On-site activations

Flow’s fresh approach to on-site activations has proven hugely successful. Gone are the days of simply handing out information leaflets – we suit up (quite literally at times) and pull out all the stops. Not yet convinced? Have a quick squiz at the campaign we put together for Standard Bank’s internal FraudStop initiative.

5. Print work

Coffee-table books, annual reports, school magazines and even safety signage – we’ve done ‘em all, we do ‘em all. Flow’s dynamic design team, coupled with our wicked writing studio, turn blank pages into printed masterpieces.

6. Website hosting (words by Kate, ‘cause she’s tech-savvy like that)

Flow Communications uses Hetzner as its preferred hosting provider. By using our hosting services, you will be assured of a single point of contact for any website-related query. Our hosting servers are specially optimised for our web solutions, which means little risk of downtime.

Features of hosting with Flow:

  • 99.9% network uptime availability
  • 24-hour monitoring of website uptime
  • Daily back-ups of all files and databases
  • Dual power feeds, UPS and generator back-up
  • Biometric security and fire protection

7. We love to lend a helping hand

Flowstars have big hearts. Introduced to us by Flow client Maropeng, Maloney’s Eye Primary School is one of our corporate social investment projects. Over the years we’ve donated some much-needed playground equipment, spread some Christmas cheer and got our hands dirty planting seedlings for a food garden.

8. Free stock images

We’re happy snappers. You cannot take a Flowstar anywhere without them wanting to take a photo – be it on their phones or a camera. Thanks to our trigger-happy ways, the Flow Flickr account now boasts over 8 000 high-quality images and they’re free to use (as long as we’re credited, of course).

9. Exhibitions

Always up for a challenge and an opportunity to think out of the box, we pride ourselves on our ability to deliver innovative user experiences. Our creative minds (and hands) have dreamed up amazing spaces that engage, educate and entertain.

10. Voiceovers, studio photography, film

Flowstars are a diverse and talented bunch. We’ve lent our voices to apps (which we developed, too) and advertisements, and in several different languages, too. And because we’re so talented, we do studio photography (with all the essential equipment at our Johannesburg office) and film (thanks to Stuart in Cape Town).
