Flow Communications

Flow conceptualised, designed and produced all the content for the From Freedom to Fanfare exhibition. Funded by the Lotto, the exhibition celebrates South Africa’s successes as a sporting host over two decades (1994 to 2014).

Flow had to develop a temporary exhibition covering about 200m2 that allowed visitors to reflect on and enjoy retrospectively the successes South Africa has enjoyed as host of international sporting events since becoming a democracy.

This was an enormous project – South Africa hosted 313 international events over 12 different sports codes in this time frame – and involved Flow’s expertise over a number of disciplines.

We had no collection to build an exhibition around, so everything needed to be developed from scratch. The exhibition included an enormous amount of research, designing the various installations, writing and editing content, and developing digital interfaces. And the project had to be pulled together through efficient project management.
