St Cyprian’s School has a long and storied heritage, dating back some 155 years, as one of Cape Town’s leading independent schools for girls. But even grand old dames occasionally need a fresh coat of paint – and so, when the school needed a new website, it turned to the experienced development and design team at Flow Communications.

We knew that this historic school, set in beautiful grounds on the slopes of Table Mountain in Oranjezicht, deserved an equally beautiful website. One with a simple, visually striking and modern feel, featuring content that reflects its full suite of offerings across its pre-preparatory, preparatory and high schools. One that properly showcases the excellence for which St Cyprian’s is renowned.

The St Cyprian’s brief was simple: develop a new website with a look and feel inspired by magazine typography and design, using the school’s existing corporate identity. The school wanted clean, crisp lines; pages that are easy to navigate, uncluttered and pleasing to the eye; and for its extensive arts and sports offerings to be foregrounded alongside its record of academic excellence.

Very importantly, the content on the new site had to be easy for the staff to edit. This prompted Flow to build the St Cyprian’s website using the Craft content management system. Craft is an extremely user-friendly, scalable and secure platform with an intuitive user interface and live preview mode, making content uploads seamless and simple.

Flow’s team of web developers and UX and UI designers got to work, creating a site that looks amazing and performs well. Our content team assisted with editing to ensure that the website features a harmonious blend of copy and imagery.

Says Flow project manager Nicky Whall, “We set out to create a fast-loading website with an appealing user experience and interface. Of particular interest is the magazine-like look and feel we created for the website, with our graphic designers making creative use of serif and sans serif fonts, juxtaposed in headings for a striking typographical effect. The result is a website that is modern and visually appealing, with a clean feel and easy navigation.”

The new website integrates video content and image galleries with all the information that prospective and current parents, students, staff and the general public need to gain a comprehensive picture of the St Cyprian’s educational experience. It also has a secure PayGate functionality that enables donors, partners and alumni to pay it forward to future generations, including young women in underserved communities.
