It’s time to welcome another new Flowstar to our steadily growing team. Nombulelo Nhlapo, known to all as Buli, started at Flow earlier this month as a media developer.
Buli made the move from Cape Town to Johannesburg, having previously worked at Oscar Tango, Primedia and e.tv. “I left Cape Town because Oscar Tango was restructuring and I was on the list,” she explains. “I’d lived in Cape Town for 10 years and figured it was maybe time to move to a new city, try something new. The opportunity was there, so I took it.”
She’s still new to Joburg, but says that she can see herself eventually becoming a fully-fledged Joburger. “I’ve been out to couple of places. It’s no Cape Town, but the people are really friendly. Everything is far and Joburg folk are not afraid to drive – around the corner could be two hours away!”
As for the job itself, Buli is still learning the ropes. Trained as a copywriter, she says that her new role as media developer at Flow is “completely different”, but has been enjoyable so far.
While her new colleagues are very quiet (they are all so busy!), she says that they have been helpful and nice, and is looking forward to working with them.
Buli has plenty of interests outside of work to keep her busy, too. “I like music and singing. I used to take vocal lessons and sing competitively. I’m also teaching myself the guitar and relearning the flute – my dream is to own a Dobro (a kind of resonator guitar) and play the blues.
“I also like to crochet and knit, do traditional fine-needle beading, and Canadian smocking. I did very basic makeup/nails/styling for photoshoots at a friend’s modeling agency in Cape Town, and it’s something I’ll pick up once I’m settled in Joburg.”
Colin Ford, writing studio manager at Flow, says, “Buli is an accomplished writer with an impressive track record and a great attitude. Already she has shown a keen willingness to learn and has added an extra bit of sparkle to the writing team in Johannesburg. We’re excited to have her in the team, and look forward to doing amazing things together.”
