Working as a project manager for South African Tourism requires a person who knows the world, and loves South Africa.
And we have a new Flowstar who fits the bill: Gail Cameron.
Originally a Jozi girl, Gail completed her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Media, English and Geography, at the University of Cape Town. She then completed her postgraduate degree in marketing.
After graduating, she worked at two advertising agencies, first as an intern at Draftfcb and then as an account manager at Promise.
After a few years in the advertising environment, she decided to travel and settled in Hong Kong. Within a week of being there she got a job as an English kindergarten teacher at a local government school. She spent a year teaching in Hong Kong, and then spent six months travelling all over Asia.
When asked what she learnt through travelling, Gail responds: “My travels have taught me not to be afraid of street food. They’ve also taught me that I can do anything. I can make friends with strangers, be spontaneous, go anywhere and be happy on my own and with myself.
“I’m definitely braver, tougher and more interesting because of all the amazing people and fascinating cultures that I came across. What I also discovered is that South Africa is the most amazing country and the place I’ll always call home.”
As the project manager for SAT, she will be working closely with Kevin Collins, our strategist. Kevin says he is “very pleased to have her, as SAT has grown enormously”, as well as that she is very “well organised, works well through all strategies and has tons of ideas”.
With tongue firmly in cheek, Kevin says he expects Gail “to become a genius, a social media mogul by June and a rocket scientist”.
Despite being a project manager for SAT, she will also be helping out the writing team.
“Gail brings some fantastic skills to Flow,” says writing studio manager Colin Ford. “Apart from her project management abilities, she’s also a good writer. I can’t wait to start working with her on some of the content jobs we have lined up in the next couple of months.”
In her spare time Gail enjoys blogging, writing, painting and tennis, and loves joining her friends for cappuccinos. She also finds pleasure in watching movies, eating all sorts of food and is always planning a holiday.
“I also love travelling. This is at the top of my list,” she says.
Gail is also very excited about being here, as she loves how everyone is a “specialist in their field and how inspiring everyone is”.
With all her travelling experience and her love for it, she will definitely bring new and fresh ideas to the SAT project, and certainly to Flow. And while she has done her fair share of globetrotting, she has a great passion for South Africa and all it has to offer – making her the perfect project manager for SAT.
