When Flow CEO Tara Turkington said, “We only want to work with people who want to be here” at my second interview, I knew that passion is what drives Flow.
When I was given an option of testing the waters for a week or two before joining Flow fulltime, it was clear they were not just looking for another person to join the team, but someone who was a good fit for the company, and vice versa. Coming from a freelance background, I could also assure myself of that before letting go of assignments I was working on.
This suggestion sounded perfect for me and very fair. Any freelancer knows how important it is to build contacts, so, without fear of losing anything but an opportunity to get an awesome job, I agreed to start immediately.
On my first day, I got right into it and started writing. Fortunately, my first assignment was with a client I was freelancing for, so I just kept writing and getting to know Flow. And before I knew it the first week was over.
In that first week, I realised that my first impression of Cape Town office manager Kate Rau was correct. From the first interview I got the feeling that it would be great to work with her. She is a great manager and while she works hard, she is accessible and always willing to help.
The Cape Town team is small and welcoming, and I immediately felt like part of it. In a matter of days, Leanne Pohlmann had introduced me to all of Flow’s Cape Town clients and basically how things work at Flow.
With such a great team it didn’t take me long to realise that I want to be a part of it for longer. At week two, I can confidently say that I am looking forward to keeping things flowing from Cape Town.
