Youlab online is the equivalent of a personal trainer

As Martin Sutherland, co-founder of Youlab, puts it: “To me, Youlab is a personal trainer for your life and career. Youlab is the online equivalent of a personal trainer, in that it gives you the ability to first identify what it is you want and then understand how who you are can help you get there.

“Once you know this, you can develop a plan towards achieving the goals, based on what you already know about yourself.”

This is quite true – the online assessments are easy to complete and gave Flowstars a well-rounded view of each individual’s strengths and weaknesses.

The difference with Youlab is that it not only allows you and your colleagues to rate each other; it also tells you why you are not performing well in certain situations, like confrontations, for example, and then gives you coaching advice on how you can improve and grow.

The website does this by simulating the reality an individual may experience when making important decisions, such as about new business ventures and work projects.

Youlab intuitively assesses a user’s strengths and weaknesses, and projects how that individual will fare and how they can improve in various situations at work and in their personal lives.

Basically, when you know yourself, you are better equipped to make informed decisions.

“It’s been an interesting experience so far,” says Colin Ford, who heads up the Flow writing team. “Unlike other human capital measurement tools, which are often cumbersome and take hours to fill in, the Youlab process was relatively quick – yet surprisingly accurate!

“I was able to use the feedback I got from my colleagues to pinpoint a specific area of development that I need to work on, to help me become better at what I do. The Youlab site also provides coaching guidelines, which will come in very handy as I embark on a personal journey of self-improvement.”

Colin says the process will also help him to start conversations around the development goals of the people in the writing team.

“Once everyone has gone through the rating process we’ll have a set of development goals for each individual in the team, which we can work towards achieving throughout the next year and beyond.”
