The second annual Jozi Film Festival, which runs from 15 to 17 February, has partnered with Vodacom to add Jozi’s Best Mobile Phone Film as a new category to the festival’s awards.
Contestants were asked to make a film encapsulating their unique view of Johannesburg, using only their cellphone.
The top 10 videos were chosen earlier this year and can be found on the Jozi Film Festival website. Now all you need to do is vote for your favourite film.
To vote, SMS the title of your favourite mobile film to 49488, at a cost of R1.50/SMS. The top three entrants will win cellphones and airtime from Vodacom, and the winner R5 000 from the Jozi Film Festival. Voting lines close on 10 February.
The best films will be announced at the Jozi Film Festival awards ceremony, taking place on 17 February.
“This is the first year we are running this competition, and the mobile phone film category has allowed us to reach a wider audience of filmmakers in Johannesburg,” says Lisa Henry, of the Jozi Film Festival.
“This category goes to show that any Joburger can be a filmmaker, and it was really about having fun and telling stories about the beautiful metropolis,” concludes Lisa.
