Flow Communications

Flow Communications is looking for a mid-senior front-end developer to join our Johannesburg office.

Flow is considered one of South Africa’s top web development companies, and with you on board we want to be even better!

Flow is not into titles, but when we say “mid-senior” we don’t mean you have to be old. We mean someone who can hold a meeting, take a brief, manage potential project roadblocks, problem-solve effectively and communicate exceptionally well with all parties involved in the web development process.

To do this, you’ll have to have the skills and knowledge to back up your point of view, and be able to deliver high-quality work within budget and on time. (No pressure!)

Job description

You’re going to have to pick up on old code produced by other developers and re-factor it, maintain existing websites and build new ones using frameworks such as ExpressionEngine, CodeIgniter and Laravel.

You will be expected to interact on a daily basis with designers, journalists and developers who have built sites like www.nelsonmandela.org and www.southafrica.net, – enterprise-level sites that require you to develop complex architectures and anticipate future developments.

Please submit your CV together with a covering letter that demonstrates your communication abilities. Your covering letter should summarise why you’re a good fit for Flow Communications.

Please also provide two contactable references.

Submit your application and CV before 27 June 2014 to Richard Frank (richard@flowsa.com).

Requirements

In your CV and interview, you will have to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of the full web application life-cycle, from concept to final production
  • The ability to communicate effectively and concisely, with experience to back up your decisions and viewpoints
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML/CSS and Javascript
  • Fully conversant with the Jquery framework
  • Experience in using version control such as GIT
  • An ability to develop yourself professionally on a daily basis

Advantageous

  • Experience with Angular JS
  • Contributions to the open source community, a Github profile with active projects, a StackExchange profile and/or participation in a community user group (e.g. PHP user group)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in an agency environment
