Maropeng, Flow’s long-time client, took top honours at this year’s Tourism Indaba Welcome Awardson 11 May.

The official visitors’ centre for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site was the overall winner in the Tourist Attraction category.

The criteria of the Tourist Attraction category included how the organisation adds value to visitors’ experiences, formal and informal training programmes offered to staff to improve service, contribution towards the upliftment of disadvantaged communities, providing an authentic South African experience and offering value for money, and whether an organisation is in a safe and secure environment.

The awards were introduced in 2003 as an initiative by South African Tourism, together with the Tourism Grading Council and the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, to recognise service excellence in tourism, especially companies and individuals that offer a genuine African experience.

Tony Rubin, Managing Director of Maropeng, said, “We are very proud to receive this award, and proud to have a World Heritage Site that is easily accessible from Johannesburg and Pretoria and which has such significant universal value to humankind.”

Maropeng, which means “place of our origins”, is a visitor centre showcasing the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Flow developed all the text displayed in the visitors’ centre in 2005 and will soon be launching a new website for Maropeng.
