Flow Communications

At Flow we’re not big on blowing our own vuvuzelas – but we’re more than happy to let others do it for us.

We recently had occasion to host eight students from the University of Johannesburg at our Johannesburg offices, who were visiting various agencies to experience real-world business activities.

Soaking up the pink at Flow

For a morning, the students were sucked into the busy whirlwind of Flow, where they had the opportunity to interact with and interview team heads, and observe staff in the design, content and development studios.

In the wake of their visit the students took the trouble to feed back to Flow. Here are some of their impressions:

“Flow – what an exceptional place. The buildings alone make it vibrant; the people just complete the package with their spontaneous responses to emails – which shows how efficient their communication is with their clients.” – Kwanele Mdletshe

Learning the ropes and taking notes

“I want to love my job and Flow has shown that it is possible. Everyone who is a part of the team at Flow is clued up on what Flow is about and knows what is happening in every sphere of the agency – hence there are never unanswered questions. The corporate culture of Flow is beyond exciting; it is flexible, and the best part is that everyone is allowed to be themselves in their corporate space. You are not restricted as an individual.” – Kwanele Mdletshe

“My impression of Flow is that it is a very youthful company that encourages personal growth and individuality. There is good communication within the company, and everyone seems to get along really well, which makes the work environment friendlier and provides comfort for anyone who walks through the door.” – Michelle Ranape

“At Flow I got to meet the masterminds behind some brilliant digital campaigns. I got to be in a world were creativity just oozes from the walls (that pink really does make you think of the world differently).” – Nontokozo Dladla

“One thing that stood out for me was how everyone who walked in that morning took their time to greet us. In a busy world where time is money, people usually forget simple things like greetings, but that does not happen at Flow.” – Kwanele Mdletshe

Always time for a selfie or two

“The experience I had at Flow Communications was very educational and eye-opening. It was the first time I had ever entered a professional workplace, and what stood out for me the most was how friendly and welcoming everyone was.” – Moitshepi Maruping

“My impression of Flow is that it is very diverse, flexible and united. The youngest employee is 21 and the oldest in their 50s, which shows a good blend of youthful exuberance and the steel of experience. There’s also a good mix of race in the office, as well as a good male-to-female ratio, which is a good representation of the country’s demographics.” – George Motsepe

“The environment at Flow Communications inspires a lot of creativity and authenticity; everyone is themselves and dresses in whatever clothing they are comfortable in. The part I enjoyed the most was learning about the process of developing a campaign for a client – how it starts, the in-between and the finished product.” – Moitshepi Maruping

Summing up her take on the students’ visit, Flow’s head of PR, Caroline Smith, said: “This is the first time we have hosted a group of students at Flow, as we have committed to creating employment opportunities and to mentoring and developing youth in our field of practice. It was a great experience for Flow and for the students.”
