Having started at Flow at the end of October 2011, Stephanie Mazingi is probably no longer considered the new kid on the Flow block. A most welcome addition to the design studio, Stephanie has adjusted quickly and settled well into the flow of things. Hailing originally from Harare, she moved to South Africa five years ago to pursue a degree, and later a career, in the creative world of design.
While getting to know our new Flowstar we also discovered what set Stephanie on the path to Flow. Having worked in various companies, from large-scale corporates to smaller businesses, Stephanie says Flow represented a happy medium which she thoroughly enjoys. She describes Flow as “awesome, and the best of both worlds”.
When asked about the highlights of her Flow experience thus far she mentions the relationships she’s formed, working with new clients, and, most important of all, “the digital design work I have been able to do”.
A good design, according to Stephanie, includes good typography, complementary colours and a little something that makes the design unique. Stephanie credits Flow’s CEO and MD, Tara Turkington and Tiffany Turkington-Palmer (affectionately known as the TTs) on their management of the company which she describes as “really cool, because work and fun are balanced.”
Stephanie’s daily routine includes everything from Facebooking to site briefs, planning and designing, with lunch somewhere in between. On weekends she’s likely to be found hitting tennis balls or hockey balls, socialising at a typical South African braai, or painting (she’s truly designer-born).
According to fellow designers George and Ryan, Stephanie is “independent, hardworking and sticks to a project.”
“Steph is speedy and makes a point of asking questions when she needs to understand something. It’s cool having her around,” says George.
They say the early bird catches the worm so the fact that Stephanie is “always the first in the office in the morning” and “handled being thrown in the deep end quite well” is probably a good thing, adds Ryan.
When it comes to one’s work “family” you can never have too many friendly and supportive faces around you, and Stephanie has certainly added these qualities, along with her creative skill, to the growing Flow household.
