Flow Communications is privileged to have long, close relationships with many of our clients. One of these is St Mary’s School.
Our bond with St Mary’s is particularly strong for various reasons, not least of which is that Flow CEO Tara Turkington and MD Tiffany Turkington-Palmer are old girls of the school. But that link has been further cemented over the years through many communications projects for the school.
These range in scale from the regular Junior and Senior School newsletters, which keep us up to speed with the day-to-day activities of the school and its learners, through to the biggest task yet for St Mary’s – a 280-page coffee-table book of the school’s history, which was published in September this year.
And we’ve just completed one of our big annual jobs for St Mary’s: its magazine, the premier showcase of all that has happened at the school this year – which is usually a lot. One can always expect St Mary’s girls not just to participate, but to excel in academics, sport, cultural activities, creativity, extramural activities and philanthropy.
This year’s bumper 192-page edition of the St Mary’s magazine, a particularly special one because of the 125th anniversary of Johannesburg’s oldest school, is no exception. The pages are filled with the achievements of St Mary’s girls in all facets of school life, both inside and outside the walls of the school’s Waverley campus.
It really is impressive to observe – albeit from a distance – how St Mary’s girls do well in whatever they take on. While they don’t know us at Flow, we certainly know them; from years of creating newsletters and magazines, we have had the opportunity to watch the school’s learners grow into confident young women. Equally impressive is the emphasis the school places on service, and how the girls embrace it.
Driving the magazine project this year was St Mary’s history teacher Pauline Grainger, who had written the manuscript for the school’s history and with whom we had worked closely on the book. This made pulling the magazine together a relatively easy task, because we were already all on the same wavelength.
Says Flow project manager Ros Caboz: “It’s always a pleasure to work with the team at St Mary’s. The annual magazine is a huge project that involves a lot hard work and participation from a dedicated team. Special thanks to Kathy, Leigh-Anne, Pauline and Margie for all their help with the project. We are proud to have produced another top-quality publication and hope that it will be enjoyed by learners and parents alike.”
We’re proud to say that St Mary’s is very pleased with the final result.
“Our 2013 school magazine has arrived and it looks stunning. A BIG thank you to you and your team for all the hours of hard work put into the magazine … Please thank all your designers – many worked on this project – and everyone else who deserves a thank you,” St Mary’s marketing manager Kathy Mittendorf wrote in an email to Tara and Tiffany.
