Joburg Flowstars scrambled to the windows of 231 Oxford Road and braved the icy weather outside when snowflakes began to fall this morning.
With large patches of heavy cloud floating overhead, interrupted occasionally by frosty patches of blue sky, the tiny flakes settled briefly before melting into slush. A bit later, larger snowflakes began to fall, flying around wildly as we all reveled in our very own winter wonderland.
Web developer, Alex Cowling, hit the ground snow-angel-style as soon as the cold pieces of fluff made their debut – perhaps a bit optimistic, but in the spirit of things nonetheless.
When asked if we could declare today a snow day and vacate the premises, financial director, Bev Strimer, replied: “No.”
Writestars Mildred Thabane, Laura Maggs, Kate Rau and Melanie Feris took charge of squealing a lot and making disappointed noises when the sun came out again.
“I’m very excited. It’s the first time I’ve seen snow in South Africa,” said Mildred, wrapped up snugly in a bright yellow coat.
Meanwhile, Janet Berger, head of Flow Exhibitions, is not so secretly holding thumbs that she’ll be snowed in during her upcoming long weekend trip to the Drakensberg.
A crackling log fire and glass of red wine sound good right about now.
