Flow Communications is looking for a senior web developer to join our Johannesburg office.
Flow is considered one of South Africa’s top web development companies, and with you on board we want to be even better!
Flow is not into titles, but when we say “senior” we mean someone who can hold a meeting, take a brief, manage potential project roadblocks, problem-solve effectively and communicate exceptionally well with all parties involved in the web development process.
To do this, you’ll have to have the skills and knowledge to back up your point of view, and be able to deliver high-quality work within budget and on time. (No pressure!)
Job description
You’re going to have to pick up on old code produced by other designers and re-factor it, maintain existing websites and build new ones using frameworks such as ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter. You will also develop new PHP-based web applications that have thousands of people using them on a daily basis.
You will be expected to interact on a daily basis with designers, journalists and developers who have built sites like www.nelsonmandela.org, www.capetown.travel, www.gauteng.net and www.etana.co.za – enterprise-level sites that require you to develop complex architectures and anticipate future developments.

Requirements
In your CV and interview, you will have to demonstrate:
- An understanding of the full web application life cycle, from concept to final production
- The ability to communicate effectively and concisely, with experience to back up your decisions and viewpoints
- Problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in XHTML/CSS and Javascript (we use the Jquery framework)
- Ability to write object-oriented PHP and use MVC-based methodologies
- Experience in using version control such as GIT
- At least three years’ agency experience (that is, working with a team of people to produce a website or web application)
- How you develop yourself professionally on a daily basis
