Flow has been appointed to manage the online profile for South African Tourism (SAT). This includes running SAT’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts (@GoToSouthAfrica and @SATravelTrade), all of which are doing incredibly well in the social networking arena.
SAT has made social media marketing an integral part of its digital marketing strategy, and Flow has been tasked with making sure the online presence of the nation’s foremost tourism body is taken to new heights.
The SAT Twitter account, @GoToSouthAfrica, is currently tweeting to more than 18 000 followers, while SAT’s trade account, @SATravelTrade, recently reached the 1 000-follower mark. Both accounts are growing exponentially and aim to keep South Africans, industry members and foreign tourists up to date with the country’s latest news and offerings.
Says Melanie Feris, the Flowstar behind the majority of SAT’s social networking, “From April to June we experienced a wonderful growth in Twitter followers – a total growth of 4 109 followers in just three months. We attract new followers on a daily basis because of the constant generation of content, which we link to our other social media platforms, as well as positive, direct engagement with our followers.
“We have also seen growth on the Facebook page, which can be attributed to constant interaction with our fans and regular uploads that speak to different target audiences.”
Driving these platforms during important events, such as Indaba 2012 and Meetings Africa, has also been a big focus.
Engaging with Facebook fans and Twitter followers is vital when it comes to assessing the interests and aims of SAT’s various target markets. Constant interaction also helps to gain valuable exposure on the world stage.
SAT’s online presence does far more than simply inform people about South African Tourism as an entity. It now includes a strong focus on engaging with followers and fans and, through their shared experiences, telling the story of South Africa.
