The 25th Anniversary Ruth first Annual Lecture aims to stimulate debate about social issues and highlight the work of the Ruth First fellows.
The Ruth First fellowship is organised and funded by the Investigative Journalism Workshop of the Wits Journalism Programme, the Ruth First Trust London, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the African Studies Journal. The fellowship highlights the need to continue Ruth First’s tradition of focusing on socially engaged journalism.
On August 17 the event, in its fourth year, fellows Leonie Joubert, journalist and Santu Mofokeng, photographer, presented their work on the topic, The impact of climate change on South Africa and its people.Ruth First was a journalist and activist whose controversial stories and ideas resulted in her assassination by the Apartheid government.
Flow was responsible for the design of the programme for this prestigious event.
