Leanne Pohlmann was working in the marketing team of Cape Town Tourism when she met Flow CEO Tara Turkington. On a fixed term contract at the time, one of her main responsibilities was to get the 2010 World Cup mini-site running, which Flow Communications was designing and developing. She quickly struck up a friendship and a good working relationship with Tara and, when her contract expired, Tara offered her a job.
Leanne is now the project manager for Flow Cape Town, overseeing and directing the traffic of Flow’s Mother City client base, which includes the likes of Cape Town Tourism, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, the Two Oceans Aquarium and, more recently, Iziko Museums.
Among the things she likes most about Flow are the great colleagues, the ever-changing work environment where no two days are the same, and coming to grips with what everyone does and how it all come together.
“Flow is a mixture of diverse people. It’s a company that is rich in culture, and I love the mixture of geeks, words people, designers and admin people,” she says.
She says she loves living in the Mother City, and being involved in the work Flow is attracting there: “We work with iconic accounts in Cape Town and this gives us the opportunity not only to appreciate the place we live in but also to know what is happening in our city. “I also love the mountain, love the outdoors. I love surfing,” she adds.
A highlight of the work so far was a staff weekend away at Jaci’s Lodges in Madikwe Game Reserve, Leanne says: “It was great to spend time with other Flowstars and be part of the bigger team up here [in Johannesburg].”
Cape Town General Manager Bronwen d’Oliveira describes Leanne as a calm but energised presence in the office: “She is a superb project manager and wonderful addition to our team.”
Media Developer Roy Barford also praises Leanne for her amazing energy: “She is superbly organised and juggles numerous projects with ease. Her sense of humour makes her a pleasure to work with and it’s great having her on board.”
Leanne describes herself as an adventurer. Having travelled extensively for over 10 years, in South East Asia, Europe, the United States and Israel, during which time she swept streets, picked tomatoes, worked as a chef on a yacht in the Caribbean, spent time at a ski resort and did some office work, Leanne says she is glad to be back in Cape Town and hopes to stay longer.
Leanne looks forward to growing Flow business in the Mother City and sees it becoming a leader in the Cape Town communications sector. On a lighter note, she says she wants to become a master foosball player, true to one of Flow’s many fabulous staff traditions.
