Flow client the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (Sasa) represents a classic case of the informal Flow motto: “Doing work we love with people we love that makes a difference in the world.”
Flow is responsible for building Sasa’s Twitter and LinkedIn profiles; managing its social community; positioning it as a thought leader and identifying PR opportunities for the CEO and the society; and creating an awareness about the profession among the public.
“We love the work we do for this client: we’ve learnt so much about the medical field, from issues faced by the government and the profession, to never-ending new medical findings and the latest technologies to advance medicine,” says Flow's head of PR, Caroline Smith.
In March this year, South African anaesthesiologists were joined by a number of their international colleagues at the 2017 National Congress of the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists (#SASA17), which was held at the Sandton ICC. More than 1 000 local and international delegates attended the congress.
#SASA17 provided delegates with cutting-edge, practical and useful information on anaesthesiology, and gave researchers a platform to present on specialist topics and findings that are aimed at broadening the knowledge and understanding of the anaesthesiology landscape.
Over 20 international and 60 local speakers presented on a variety of topics, including:
- The hierarchy of evidence – a fascinating presentation about fake medical journals that are filled with bad science and media hype
- The debate: abdominal surgery – it's time to abandon the epidural
- Is the hype on medical marijuana all smoke and mirrors?
- The landscape of global fees
According to Sasa CEO Natalie Zimmelman, “These congresses are renowned for their academic excellence, thanks to our panel of international and local experts, lectures and workshops that position the congress as a stellar educational event.
“The insights we get from both local and international experts can only enrich the profession. Our specialists are among the best in the world and we are proud to be making a positive contribution to our country.”
For Flow, these congresses offer excellent opportunities for positioning our client at the forefront of anaesthesiology.
