Flowstars paired their slops, boots, sneakers and shoes with red socks today, all in the name of redsockfriday.
To kick off Flow’s inaugural scarlet celebration, redsockfriday co-founder John McInroy spent the morning with CEO Tara Turkington and Managing Director Tiffany Turkington-Palmer, telling them more about the initiative and its values. He even slotted in a game of foosball, in true Flow tradition!
Flow was introduced to redsockfriday exactly one week ago today by Etana’s Carel Nolte, who gave each staff member a pair of socks to as a token of appreciation for Flow’s support during the Etana daREDevil Speedo Run. Needless to say, Flowstars were quick off the mark, and embraced the movement with gusto.
According to www.redsockfriday.com, the tradition of wearing red socks started between two friends who were looking for a way to express their friendship, and happened on a particularly touching World War I story, which involved a war veteran who always wore this scarlet accessory.
The veteran wore red socks every day as a way to remember two of his best friends who had died in battle. These three friends had made a pact on being sent to fight in World War I, that whoever made it out alive should always wear a sign to remember his friends. They chose red socks.
Today redsockfriday represents friendship and passion. A portion of proceeds from red sock sales goes to charity.
Instead of Flow pink, gardener and graphic design student John Kazembe embraced redsockfriday for today.
Flow Sub-Editor Judith Browne repurposed her socks to give them a little more style. Here she is with redsockfriday co-founder John McInroy.
Flow girls also embraced the movement, saying “Shooops!” to red socks.
