Flow Communications is privileged to have secured a significant amount of work from a number of prestigious schools in South Africa. This continued when we were appointed at the end of 2021 to design and develop a new website for Brescia House School, an independent Catholic girls’ school in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
The brief from the school’s head of marketing and admissions, Helga Bishop, was pretty straightforward: “Improve visitors’ online experience, and design a site that looks good, is easy for me to update, and is mobile-friendly.”
The challenge with any school website is that it needs to appeal to and meet the needs of a number of different stakeholders. We achieved this effectively by grouping relevant items in the same category – for instance, everything a prospective parent needs to know about applying to Brescia House is found under the admissions tab, with information on admissions criteria and school fees, along with all the necessary documents available as downloads.
Brescia had a fairly tight budget, which meant that Flow did not provide any writing, proofreading or editing services. This provided an interesting challenge, but as we say at Flow: we believe in working with people we like on work we love.
Says Flow designer Lizette Sutherland, “The challenge in designing the Brescia House School website was organising and integrating all the various informational pieces (existing and new) into a user-friendly and logical system, while giving the website a fresh new modern look. Our client was very forthcoming with ideas and approvals from her side, making the process successfully collaborative.”
The project team certainly enjoyed working with Helga, who was clear about what she wanted, and was happy with the results. “I enjoyed working with the team – they were always patient, understanding and very accommodating,” says Helga.
