Flow Communications

On Thursday 27 February, about 25 PHP developers descended on Flow Communications for the inaugural PHP Johannesburg user group.

The user group has been set up to enable developers to share ideas and tips from their work, explore new technologies, network (in the traditional and IT sense) and have a few drinks with like-minded people.

Flow sponsored the venue and drinks, and coincidentally all three of the developers presenting on the night were Flowstars: Zander janse van Rensburg gave an introduction to Laravel, a PHP framework we currently use on our large web application projects; Richard Frank presented on the business side of web development; and Stephen Frank gave a quick 10-minute talk on a PHP script he has written to rename files and folders, and index them.

Flow has offered to host the PHP meet-ups as a way of giving back to the open-source development community and to support the growth of PHP as the web development language of choice.
