Flow joins the South African National Editors’ Forum this month, MediaFreedom Month, in remembering those brave journalists around the worldwho were killed, detained and arrested for doing their jobs.

We remember and honour in particular those South African journalistswho took a stand against the ugly face of apartheid and fought formedia freedom so that we, the journalists of today, would be able towrite freely and objectively without worrying that our articles wouldbe censored or remain unpublished.

This month 31 years ago, two leading newspapers, The World and the Weekend World, were banned in South Africa and Editor Percy Qoboza and his deputy Aggrey Klaaste were detained and arrested.

Now we look back at those times and applaud those unsung heroes andheroines who fought fearlessly for the tenets of good journalism:objectivity, fairness and being a voice for the voiceless.
