The colours are invigorating without being garish

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is at the top of its game when it comes to all things broadcasting, and recently employed Flow to update its website to portray an appropriate image online.

Creating this website presented a challenge because of the sheer volume of information the NAB has available to its members and to the public. The site had to be carefully designed and planned to make information available to users without overwhelming them.

Designer Kiril Velcov says: "Upgrading the website was challenging and very exciting. We had to take the existing database and fit it into a pleasant and easy-to-access layout.

"The website had to portray the size and scope of the organisation as well as create a seamless user experience. We made the information accessible by eliminating long breadcrumbs and depth. It was a pleasure working with the NAB team and the results were very rewarding."

With much client collaboration all the NAB's resources were carefully categorised to make information as accessible as possible to the user. NAB members’ information was also grouped into categories, and information about industry stakeholders was carefully arranged in a specific order.

Despite the fact that the site contains a great deal of content, the design is clean and simple, making users feel comfortable and in control of site navigation.

NAB staff members are passionate about the broadcasting industry and the effect that it has on peoples’ lives, elements that have been carried through to the site usability.

The home page features multimedia elements such as a video and a voice clip about the NAB, which welcome users straight away with an experience that offers more than simply viewing a web page.

The corporate colours of the NAB – blue and red – have been incorporated into the design and repeated to lead the eye to related content throughout the site.

Imagery chosen for the site portrays the human elements of the broadcasting industry, highlighting the role broadcast media plays in creating a window on the rest of the world and reaching out to those who would otherwise be isolated or marginalised.

Developer Jarred Caboz says: "Construction of the NAB site was engaging and challenging. It was enjoyable to work with a group of people so dedicated to the broadcasting industry."
