Flow Communications

Being a part of the Flow Communications team has been a dream of mine since completing my diploma in journalism in 2011. More than two years later, and a bachelor of technology degree in journalism at hand, I am able to make that dream a reality.

I am delighted to say that Flow Communications is everything I imagined it to be – a friendly work environment with people who are just as passionate about what they do as I am.

When I walked into the Cape Town office on my first day, the Flowstars greeted me with smiles on their faces and an offer of a cup of coffee. I immediately knew I would love it here, and the beautiful view of Table Mountain is an added bonus.

Originally from the Eastern Cape, I have always been exposed to print media and broadcasting. Since my first year at university I have tried to keep busy and experience as much of the media industry as possible. I began by writing for the school news agency, then moved on to doing news reporting for local radio stations, tried my hand at television presenting, and also did a little digital media training and some research work.

In the few days I have been at Flow I have learnt that there is a lot more to digital media than I have ever been exposed to. I realised that I still have so much to learn.

Flowstar Lynnette Jones has been kind enough to spend hours of her time helping me out. Writing a blog is one thing, but uploading it to the site is a completely different story. There is coding involved and a whole lot of other technicalities that I am still learning.

“It is an absolute joy working with you, because you are so receptive to learning and I’m glad that we’ve got you drinking coffee,” said Lynnette.

Riefkah Adams and Leanne Pohlmann have also been so generous with their time, always willing to answer questions and show me how things work.

“You have adapted very well to the Flow Cape Town environment; you are eager to learn and it shows,” said Riefkah.

Flow Communications works continuously to maintain a great working relationship with their clients and passion and hard work are of great significance.

Working at Flow has opened my mind up to a different aspect of the media industry. Being at Flow fits perfectly into where I want to be in my career right now. I want to learn as much as possible and contribute to the growth of the company.

Roy Barford, Flow Cape Town manager, believes I have great potential to do big things in the world.

“You have thorough understanding of journalistic techniques; it is also great that you are adapting quickly to technical methods,” said Roy.
