Of all the board games in existence, Monopoly is by far one of the most well known. Introduced in 1934 by toy manufacturer Parker Brothers, Monopoly has become a true classic and has been the cause of many family feuds the world over.

On 13 November 2015, Flow Cape Town was invited to cover the Mr Monopoly Cape Town launch at the V&A Waterfront. A life-sized Monopoly board was positioned in front of the clock tower, which lent itself to fantastic picture-taking opportunities, while a marimba band playing in the background gave the event a distinctly local feel. The weather played along, and some attendees made a special effort to don black top hats to celebrate the auspicious occasion.

The highly anticipated version of the board game features all the great attractions of the Cape, including the Cape Town Big 7, the Taj Cape Town hotel, and even Ajax Cape Town Football Club. The University of the Western Cape and Cape Town International Airport also make a welcome appearance, along with the traditional income tax and electricity blocks.

Local celebrities at the launch included comedian and actor Siv Ngesi, presenter and model Liezel van der Westhuizen and Miss South Africa 2002, Cindy Nel. Speakers on the day included local councillor Gareth Bloor, who represented the City of Cape Town, and Cape Town Partnership CEO Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, who jokingly apologised to players in advance for charging them when they land on the City Walk (the monthly events are actually free).

Flow clients City Sightseeing, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and the Two Oceans Aquarium were all selected to occupy blocks on the board, with the City Sightseeing block being located on the most expensive property strip.

Locals and tourists alike will enjoy this special edition of the Monopoly board, and it stands as a great tribute to the excellent landmarks and experiences that can be found in the Mother City.
