It’s not often that you hear of a business in the tourism industry – or any industry, for that matter – celebrating its 40th anniversary. Misty Mountain, a fabulous retreat situated on the Long Tom Pass in Mpumalanga, turns 40 this year and will be marking the occasion throughout 2014.

Flow is associated with Misty Mountain through the work we do on the Kruger Lowveld Tourism (KLT) website. KLT chairperson Lisa Sheard and her husband James own and operate the lodge, which has been in the family since 1974.
“Celebrating 40 years of good times is our theme for the year,” says Lisa, “and we have woven this thread through into the months ahead by offering lots of specials around our year of establishment – 1974 – and around our 40th birthday celebration.”

The highlight of the year is going to be a three-night extravaganza in May, when beds will be sold at 1974 prices of R15 per bed, followed by a 40-day birthday sale offering a 40% discount off B&B rates. While this will certainly attract a lot of new customers to the establishment (did we mention that the prices will be R15 PER BED!?), James and Lisa say that the number of return guests over the years has been amazing.
“We have got to know our guests as their lives have progressed,” says James. “We have met people who came here as children and now bring their own children here. We have even met people who were conceived here!”
Congratulations to James and Lisa, and to the incredible team at Misty Mountain! Wishing you at least another 40 years of success and great memory-making.
