Flow Communications had the privilege of working on the Media Monitoring Africa Child Protection and Trafficking (MMA) website, helping promote awareness and highlight concerns around reporting on human trafficking and child protection in Africa.
MMA is a media watchdog, promoting responsible, high-quality reporting in Africa and the world.
Through the Child Protection and Trafficking website, the MMA hopes to address knowledge and information gaps that exist, thereby improving upon the reporting around this particular issue.
The website offers tips and advice to children and parents on how to protect themselves, as well as useful facts and information about this form of modern-day slavery.
The website also focuses on child safety measures that were taken during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Children were given the opportunity and platform to speak about their views on child trafficking at a press conference hosted on June 12, 2010.
Flow designer George Xafis felt privileged to design a site meant to promote awareness on such an important issue: “It was a good experience and still sits well with me. It felt like I was giving back to the kids, indirectly, by designing a microsite that was aimed at child trafficking. Through it, I became more aware, and I hope others will feel the same way.”
MMA will host a photography exhibition entitled “Child Protection & Trafficking: Is the Media Telling the Right Story?” on November 17, 2010 at the Women’s Jail on Constitution Hill, beginning at 17h30.
