Congratulations go out to our very first client, Maropeng, the official visitor centre of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, for taking home seven awards at the 2013 West Rand Tourism Awards.

We are very proud of Maropeng and its outstanding achievements. The attraction is consistently being recognised as a tourism leader, not only on the West Rand, but also in the Gauteng province and further afield.

Maropeng was our first client (we researched and wrote all the copy for the exhibitions at Maropeng and the nearby exhibition centre at the Sterkfontein Caves) and even though we have both grown in the past seven years, it will always have a special place in our hearts.

“The work Maropeng continues to do – helping to conserve one of the world’s most precious sites, creating economic opportunities through tourism and conferences and the role it plays in educating visitors on Africa’s palaeoanthropology and heritage – leaves us in awe and encourages us to deliver a world-class service,” Flow CEO Tara Turkington says.

Congratulations, Maropeng, one of the leading tourist attractions in Gauteng and also one of the greenest

Last month, Maropeng was also awarded the 2013 Best Large Business award in the tourism, hospitality and leisure category by the West Rand Chamber of Business and Tourism.

The sixth annual West Rand Tourism Awards evening was attended by about 200 tourism industry leaders, government officials and politicians. The awards recognise and celebrate business owners, products and services that demonstrate excellence and value for money to tourists visiting the West Rand.

We commend Maropeng for the following awards:

  • The Maropeng Hotel is one of the best four-star establishments on the West Rand
  • Best overall tourist establishment on the West Rand
  • Sustained achievement award
  • Gold – for Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Events (MICE)
  • Gold – to Beverly Makopo for being the best site guide
  • Gold – for the best educational experience
  • Gold – best eco-tourism establishment
  • Silver – in the four-star lodge/hotel category

“Flow Communications is passionate about tourism, heritage and conservation, and Maropeng ticks all three of those boxes. Winning the sustained achievement award (winning a category or being a finalist for three years or more) is an indication that Maropeng is a world-class venue,” Turkington adds.

Flow Communications’ Melanie Feris, who worked with Maropeng managing director, Tony Rubin, and his team to submit the competition entries, says: “I am so thrilled for Maropeng. It was a well-deserved win. Maropeng is a great place and the staff are dedicated to maintaining high standards in everything they do. It was really great working on the entries for these awards and I learnt a great deal about what goes on behind the scenes. Well done to all the Maropeng staffers.”

Flow recently launched a new website for Maropeng: www.maropeng.co.za.
