New to Flow Communications as a programmer is Josef van Niekerk. Originally from the Free State, Josef and his wife moved to Cape Town because they love the scenery and the winelands.
Josef has been living in Cape Town for about two years and joined Flow’s Cape Town office when his previous place of work merged with another company. “I felt that my skills would be redundant and the company wasn’t going in the direction I wanted for my career,” he says.
When Vaughan Webber, a fellow programmer at Flow, heard there was a vacancy, he introduced Josef to Flow Communications.
The team in Cape Town is delighted to have Josef. “It’s been great having another Afrikaans speaker in the office,” says Ingrid Sinclair, writer at Flow Cape Town. “Josef is interested and interesting, and we are delighted to have an on-site programmer with his kind of experience in Cape Town. I’m sure I’ll be calling him ‘Brosef’ in no time.”
Ati Tshikalange, programmer at Flow’s Johannesburg office, says: “It makes strategic sense to have an on-site programmer in Cape Town. With big clients such as Cape Town Tourism and the Two Oceans Aquarium, there has to be seamless and fluid communication in the team so any problems can be solved faster – and we’re confident Josef is the man for the job.”
And Josef is excited. “There’s a lot of information to take in and it’s a huge responsibility, but I’m thrilled at the challenge. I like the staff here at Flow; they’re all very hardworking.”
Not only is Josef tackling huge responsibilities at work, but little Joshua – the soon-to-be new addition to Josef’s family – will be giving dad some added responsibility at home. “We’re six months pregnant and we can’t wait for Joshua,” adds Josef. Joshua will be joining Frikkie and Otto, Josef’s labrador and Jack Russell – who Josef is passionate about.
