Ive been acused by many of being a Grammer Nazi. Im continuosly been sent funny’s laying some spelling misteak or grammatical error bear. Sometimes their good. Other time’s not.
“Fasten your sit belt”
“He’s love is everlasting”
“All new coache’s”
Honestly, I’m getting quite bored with all the “There, their, they’re” memes, screen shots of vicious spelling attacks on social media, the split infinitive police (“To scrupulously defend the integrity of the infinitive” or “To infinitive and beyond …”), etc. etc. ad infinitive.
Here’s how I see it: I can spell. I can construct a sentence. That’s what I’m good at. But not everybody has the knack. Some people are good at fixing engines. Others can solve complex mathematical equations. You don’t see them posting virulent attacks against those who can’t: “Dude, I cant believe that okes valve knock!! Did you here it? Its pathetic!” or “LEARN TO DIFFERENTIATE, MORON!!”
I say let’s live and let live. Let mechanics fix cars, mathematicians solve equations and wordsmiths sort out grammar and punctuation – without judgement. There are bigger things to get worked up about. I can’t imagine the world will stop turning because of a misplaced semicolon;
