The IAC, held every four years, is the most important and prestigious event for the public aquarium industry. Professionals representing aquariums across the globe attend the IAC to share knowledge and learn about new developments in research, technology, management and other industry issues.
Since Flow’s Cape Town client, the Two Oceans Aquarium, hosted the six-day September event – the first to be held in Africa – Flow was tasked with populating the dedicated IAC site, which we also designed and developed, with fresh content.
A second Flow client, the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR), based at uShaka Sea World in Durban, also played an integral part in the four-day congress, with CEO Judy Mann giving the opening keynote lecture on education.
While Two Oceans project manager Ingrid Sinclair was kept busy with on-site interviews, video and reportage directly from the IAC, Durban-based SAAMBR project manager Christine Marot posted blogs and tweeted on the Two Oceans and SAAMBR sites, and Laura Maggs, journalist and media developer based in Flow Johannesburg, posted daily news blogs, Facebook posts and tweets.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to do more aquarium work. It’s such a fun and interesting client. I’m glad I could be of help while the IAC was happening,” says Laura.
“The IAC was a great example of Flow teamwork in action. Each player understood their role and delivered content that kept all three sites updated with latest developments as the IAC unfolded,” says Christine.
“It was exciting being part of the energy that characterised the IAC. I am proud to have worked in tandem with my Cape Town and Johannesburg counterparts to deliver on-time, quality content that showcased South Africa’s capability to international visitors.”
