Did you know that you can boost your WiFi signal with an empty beer can? Or that an American brewery has released a beer based on the popular television series Game of Thrones? Do you know your Belgian bock from your English ale?
If you follow the SAB World of Beer’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, then you just might.
Building a client’s social media and web presence from the ground up is always an exciting challenge. In April 2012, Flow built a sharp and interactive new website for the SAB World of Beer, and with it, began building their presence on social media platforms Facebook and Twitter.
In a matter of months each had attracted a healthy following, with 846 Twitter followers and 729 Facebook fans as of 8 January 2013.
The World of Beer has twice been named South Africa’s number one tourist attraction (2009 and 2011), and takes pride in offering visitors an educational glimpse into the history and culture of beer from across the globe.
“We adopt a fun and relaxed approach when posting content or interacting with fans and followers, while promoting the ‘No Regrets’ mentality of responsible alcohol consumption,” says Flow writer Stuart Dickinson, who heads the World of Beer content development and social media platforms.
“Because beer forms a big part of South African culture, especially within the sports scene, there’s always a variety of material we can work with.”
Expect to find everything from interesting facts about beer and the history of different brews from around the world, to sports updates, recipes using beer and live updates from World of Beer events, like their golf day which took place in August 2012 in aid of the Our Rhinos in Safe Hands campaign.
In creating a successful online presence, Flow also ensures that the social media channels interlink with the World of Beer blog, which is updated regularly. The website now has an average of 4 000 visits per month.
World of Beer marketing assistant Senzekile Dlamini says, “Our website is great. It is constantly updated by Flow, which keeps it fresh and relevant to our target market.”
