Many people resent having to write retrospectives because they are brimming with excitement about the prospect of downtime and the anticipation of socialising with family and friends.
However, at Flow we love annual reviews because year-end posts are about remembering what we did, seeing how far we’ve come and preparing for the challenges of a new year.

As we bid farewell to 2016, we would like to take a moment to celebrate some highlights of the past year and to say thank you to our amazing clients.
PR studio highlights from 2016:
- We grew in numbers: During the second quarter of the year, we welcomed Neo Tlaka, Qiniso Makopo, Ayanda Siswana and Nicky Smith to the Flow PR studio
- Thuli Madonsela: Always the griller. Never the chicken: From one fiery chick to another, on behalf of Nando’s, Flow delivered one last poster to Thuli Madonsela to thank her for all that she has done to fire up the country
- For the love of laughter: Flow rendered services to Whacked entertainment at the 2016 Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards ceremony produced by John Vlismas and Taffia Keight
- Ster-Kinekor Entertainment fans and fiction: Journalists and bloggers were invited to a movie review of Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. The review delivered an impressively fresh, exciting and truly memorable experience
- The US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (Pepfar) and empowerment of girls: Flow had the privilege of rubbing shoulders with Oprah Winfrey during a Pepfar women's empowerment event at the Premier Hotel OR Tambo Airport on 2 December. We provided coverage of the event (live tweeting) and facilitated media interviews. The highlight of the day was United States ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard's interview with Winfrey. The queen of talk spoke about her upbringing and shared how she navigated challenges in her personal and professional life, among other things
- The creation of barrier-free environments – loop system launch: Flow Communications, on behalf of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities, invited the media to the launch of the new loop system testing at the University of South Africa in Pretoria. The loop system supports hearing aid users attending lectures so they are able to receive undistorted sound delivered directly to them by the lecturer
- Unlocked more doors, got new business: By keeping abreast of ever-changing trends in the corporate world, we were able to forge new relationships with a number of PR clients. These include Propertuity; the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities; Whacked entertainment; Brand South Africa; the Gates Foundation; UN Women; Pepfar; and Ster-Kinekor.
As we move into a new year brimming with opportunity, the PR studio at Flow Communications is fired up about delivering exceptional PR and communications services to existing and potential clients.
“2016 has been a year of collaboration between the team and our clients. There is definitely a big opportunity for growth and innovation, because we have the right people with the potential to produce quality work in 2017,” says Caroline Smith, head of PR at Flow.
We would like to thank our clients and friends for making 2016 the eventful and successful journey it has been. Here’s to a massive 2017!
