Flowstars travelled to the outskirts of Johannesburg last week on a mission to find their “champions within”. And what better role model to draw inspiration and wisdom from than our very own champion, Nelson Mandela…
The team at Life College in Chartwell Fourways welcomed us for a day of critical thinking and meaningful dialogue as part of its highly acclaimed leadership course, entitled “Nelson Mandela – The Champion Within”.
Based on insights from Madiba’s book, Conversations with Myself, the programme aims to foster a “humanising leadership consciousness” by encouraging philosophical group discussions in a relaxed, friendly environment.
How can we become better leaders? How do we best utilise our strengths to become the champions we are meant to be?
Here’s what a few Flowstars thought of their time with the Life College team:
Tiffany Turkington-Palmer, managing director
“We thought the programme was great – both at a personal level in making us reflect on our individual contributions to society, and from a company level in engaging the whole team in meaningful exercises around the values of Flow.”
Thabs Royds, project manager
“The NM-CW workshop with Life College was just fantastic – it’s a great organisation. What stays with me from the workshop is that we should look at ourselves and see what we have within us that we can grow and use to change our lives, the lives of those around us, and to change the world.”
Ryan Levenson, designer
This course was a great way for us as a team to leverage the opportunities of group dialogue. It was a time for meaningful self-reflection and a way for us to explore how we can become more aware of how we impact the world around us.
Colin Ford, writing studio manager
Pat Pillai and the Life College team are so darned nice! They really got us talking and thinking about thinking. I was so inspired that I’m considering changing my middle name to “Rolihlahla”.
Gianluca Tucci, project manager
My day truly began in wonder ... from the start of the course, thinking was initiated and the importance of dialogue between people was highlighted. By the end of the experience, I felt proud and can certainly say the wheels of wisdom were allowed to turn.
Says Tiffany, “Thank you to the incredible team at Life College for its compassion and dedication to improving our society, and helping change the perspectives of so many people.”
