Part of being a GeePee is keeping up to date, on trend and in the know – which is why the I’m A GeePee website has had a revamp. For GeePee cardholders, the upgrade brings with it plenty of specials, picked from Gauteng’s top attractions and accommodation venues.

The name GeePee comes from Gauteng’s car licence plates, and refers to a resident of the province.
“The Gauteng Tourism Authority [GTA] is calling on GeePees to share memorable tourism experiences,” says Flowstar Kate Rau, which is why the GeePee site now hosts blogs from a variety of sources, including interviews with celebrities such as Mandoza and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse. It’s a website where celebrity GeePees also tell other GeePees about their favourite places in the province, and why they became a GeePee.
But Kate says what she finds most exciting about the site is that it doesn’t just ask for celebrity stories – it asks for the stories of why every GeePee loves Gauteng.
Flow web developer Alex Cowling says much of the focus in the remodelled site is on the experiences section, making it possible for all GeePees to share their experiences of the province. And Flow writer Mildred Thabane says, “This site reminds people that Gauteng is not just a business centre, and that GeePees don’t need to leave their home province to have a fun time or relax as there is plenty to do in Gauteng.”
The GeePee site is also linked to social media so that GeePees can connect on Facebook or tweet on #GeePee. There is also a space to share videos of attractions and what GeePees are up to in the province.

The site engages with people living in and loving Gauteng and asks them to commit to being GeePees by signing up for a GeePee card. In turn, the holder of the card receives specials on food and drink, attractions, accommodation and special events in the province. The specials section of the GeePee site has also been remodelled as the specials are updated so regularly. You can sign up for a GeePee card on the site, and either have an electronic card with a digital barcode sent to your phone, or receive a physical card.
The GeePee campaign forms part of the GTA’s domestic tourism strategy, but there are plans to grow it to a national and an international level. In the future, visitors to Gauteng will be able to get GeePee cards at the airport and also receive the GeePee specials.
Kay Robinson, e-marketing manager of GTA, says, “You guys got rave reviews for the new GeePee pages – they’re incredibly striking and we can really say that we’ve done ATTRACT exceptionally well on this page when it comes to impact.”
Go to GeePee and share your story of what makes Gauteng great.
