Flowstars from our Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg offices congregated at St David’s Marist Inanda for our end-of-year party themed “Night of the Flowstars” – and what a red-carpet occasion it turned out to be!
On 6 December 2019, the St David’s pavilion was decked out with a red carpet, spotlights, a backdrop and all the glitz and glamour that befits a celebrity event. And Flowstars did not disappoint. The guys polished their dancing shoes and donned their formal suits for the occasion, outdone only by the gals in their ballgowns, bling and high heels!
The atmosphere was one of jubilation and celebration after a year filled with hard work, achievement, awards, accolades and doing work we love with people we love.
MCs Ayanda Siswana and Grant McMullin maintained an upbeat vibe throughout the evening, and Flow chairperson Bheki Shongwe congratulated everyone on another successful year in the communications industry.
Our guest speaker on the night was the inspirational Khanyi Chaba, mountaineer extraordinaire and mother of 13, who shared her business insights using the analogy of mountain climbing. All the facets were there: teamwork, supporting those who falter, keeping the goal in sight, overcoming odds – and, finally, making it to the summit. Chaba is head of responsible business at Old Mutual Limited and is tasked with the company’s sustainable development strategy across Africa.
Once the formalities and dining were over, DJ Chad (aka Flow’s IT manager, Chaddean Soo) set about playing a very long list of requests, which ranged from Abba to Lizzo, RuPaul, Biggie, Smash Mouth, AC/DC, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, The Killers, Snoop Dogg and Beyoncé. The dancing divas took to the floor to strut their stuff while other Flowstars mingled and dazzled in their glad rags.
Those who made exceptional contributions to the company during the past year were recognised with individual awards and the much-coveted Flowstar of the Year Award went to our traffic and production manager, Christelle de Beer.
The night’s festivities were not dampened by the incessant rain and celebrations went on until after midnight. As we approach the end of 2019 and a well-earned holiday break, Flow looks forward to another successful year in 2020 with optimism and enthusiasm.
