The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, just outside Johannesburg, is not just about stones and bones.
Sure, it is currently one of the most exciting locations for discovering the origins of humankind, what with sites like the Dinaledi cave system, where Homo naledi was found, and the world’s longest-running palaeontological excavation site, Sterkfontein.
But spend a few days in the area and you’ll also discover excellent game-viewing opportunities, luxury accommodation, adrenaline sports, family-friendly restaurants, cultural attractions, and world-class venues for weddings and conference events.
Flow recently concluded a video shoot that captured the thriving and multifaceted tourist industry in the Cradle area. The final product below was first aired at this year’s Tourism Indaba. Check it out below:
Rocking the Cradle
From a personal point of view, a week-long shoot on location was challenging, but extremely rewarding. I am glad to see that more and more of our clients are turning to Flow to assist with video production, and this project was certainly one of the bigger ones we have undertaken recently. I got to film some incredible experiences, and that made the long days and early mornings well worth it!
After the initial shock of discovering a jackal outside my room for the first two nights, I soon got used to the natural beauty and quietude of the place. Here's a silly little behind-the-scenes video I made from all the footage that I accidentally appeared in somehow:
