As a final year varsity student with a thirst to learn more, my month as a Flowstar far exceeded my expectations.
Hailing from Boksburg, I am someone who loves family, friends, food, and music. I would love to travel the world, write and make the most out of life while fulfilling my purpose.
Completing my schooling in my hometown, I took part in several cultural and sport activities, namely eisteddfods, school plays, athletics and hockey.
After matric I decided to head to Port Elizabeth to pursue my tertiary education at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. My decision to move proved fruitful when I graduated with a BA degree in Media, Communication and Culture, majoring in Public Relations. I am currently completing my BA Honours degree in Corporate Communication.
My earliest memory of writing dates back to my primary school years when I wrote stories, inspired by similar tasks at school. Following that, I started writing poetry in high school. I entered a local poetry competition and although I didn’t win, I was fortunate enough to have my poem published in an anthology. I remember feeling a sense of joy, and this inspired me to continue writing.
Fast forward to my varsity years, I created a blog as part of an assessment and continued posting entries after the assessment was complete.
I first heard about Flow through a friend, who encouraged me to apply for an internship. I continue to express my gratitude to her.
My time as a Flowstar has reignited my passion for writing. It has been beneficial, as I have learned much about the art and skill of writing, which I believe will add to me refining this skill. Being my first official office experience, I also learned about etiquette and practices in the workplace.
It was heartwarming to have Flow staff, specifically the writing team, make me feel like one of the team, show interest and demonstrate professionalism and dedication.
The various subjects I wrote on were new to me and I found them interesting. At times I felt challenged, but took comfort in the knowledge that that was the only way I would grow. One of my highlights of the past month would have to be meeting Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at Maropeng, an incredibly humbling and fascinating experience.
Looking ahead, I feel that, thanks to Flow, I have been equipped to develop myself as a writer as well as an individual. I consider myself highly blessed to have been a part of this amazing company, and hopefully this is not where the road ends.
I will definitely miss the kind nature of all the staff and their willingness to assist me without hesitation … and the ever-so-tasty lunch days!
