A small gesture can make a big difference in a lot of people’s lives – that is if enough individuals contribute.

Our friends at Flying Children, an organisation that helps to provide quality child care for orphans and vulnerable children, have made a plea for assistance in their fundraising efforts, tying their latest campaign into this year’s 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

“We want to find 1 000 people to give just R120 a year – that’s R10 a month and less than R2 per minute of the 67 minutes you give to Madiba – to Flying Children,” says Flying Children director Lindy Harris. “This would amount to R120 000, which is enough for us to help six early childhood development centres to run a good programme.

“The funds would also contribute towards getting ourselves officially registered so that we can move on to help more centres.”

Lindy and her team are running a viral campaign, asking each person who contributes to find five more people to make a donation.

“Apart from the warm, fuzzy feeling you’ll get from helping to improve a child’s childhood immensely, we’ll also send you a yearly report with lots of photos letting you know how we have put your money to use. And, of course, you become a lifetime friend of Flying Children.”

How to make a donation

Choose your month – “… maybe somewhere between April and July for Madiba’s birthday”, suggests Lindy – and then every year during that month arrange to get the money to Flying Children in one of the following ways:
