Flow family and friends, please join us in welcoming our latest addition to the design studio and Flow family: multimedia senior designer Kiril Velkov.
Born in Bulgaria to a Greek father and Bulgarian mother, Kiril is a man of the world, and a very interesting character indeed.
His first name reflects his Greek origins; it means “master” or “philosopher”, but over the centuries the meaning has evolved to “gentleman”.
“I definitely identify with the philosopher reference, because I love reading. I’m logical and factual.
“At the moment I’m reading The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkins, which is about evolution and its complex nature. As long as I can remember I have been flabbergasted by biology, and it’s really something I enjoy reading about.”
He graduated in graphic and multimedia design from the Denmark College of Arts and Design in 2002. Before moving to South Africa (it will be seven years in July), Kiril lived in a few countries such as Bulgaria and Spain. He’s fluent in all these languages (English and Greek included), and one of his priorities is to now learn a South African language.
“The point of learning any language is to better understand other people. I would love to learn Sotho or Xhosa because they are the most commonly spoken, in my opinion,” he says.
We have a feeling Kiril will be clicking in no time as his neighbour, Nomthandazo Peyise, mixes about five South African languages in one sentence.
Of Nomthandazo and the Flow family he says: “Noms is fantastic, I love her energy. The whole office is filled with nice people and has a great vibe, and allows freedom of expression.”
Nomthandazo says: “Kiril is loud, loud, loud and loud. Well, I'm also loud, so it’s all good. He’s awesome, cool, funny; it’s nice getting to know him.”
MD Tiffany Turkington says: “Kiril has quickly proven himself to be a popular and very talented Flowstar, and we are proud to bring his skills to a wide range of projects.”
Sounds like a match made in heaven. Welcome, Kiril!
