Leadership and innovation are among the official values of Flow Communications. So, when our former design studio manager, Janet Berger, started spending more time on an upcoming exhibition upgrade at the Maropeng Visitor Centre, Flow went looking for someone new to manage the design studio. Our pearl of a find? Tina Brown.
Her predecessor, Janet, was recently made CEO of one of Flow’s new sister companies, Flow Exhibitions.
Tina joined the Flow team on 3 January, 2011 with a fine pedigree. Prior to this, Tina, who holds a diploma in graphic design from Vaal University of Technology, worked as a creative director at communications and design company Studio 5.
She found out about the job at Flow through a friend who saw the advertisement on Bizcommunity.com. “I had been looking to take my career to the next level so when I saw the advertisement I thought to myself, why not? I sent my CV and the rest, as they say, is history.”
So far Tina has been learning the ins and outs of the studio: “I love how the designers know their capabilities. They love what they do, and it is great to know that I can rely on them.”
Asked what else stands out about Flow so far? Tina responds, “I like the interaction between staff –the office is very lively.”
Having come from a largely print environment, Tina says her transition to design for the web is going well and that she enjoys “the immediacy of the online world”.
She says she plans to learn and move forward in 2011, both personally and professionally.
“I want to learn as much as possible and to be useful here at Flow.
Apart from a passion for excellent design, Tina is also an animal lover and keeps a horse on a farm near her home. She is also finishing two externships – one for an equine para-veterinary course specialising in soft tissue rehabilitation, the other in equine biomechanics.
When she is not riding her horse, Tina can be seen taking photos or unwinding over a good movie.
Flow Communications welcomes Tina Brown to the family.
