On Thursday, October 7, Flow Communications’ client Cape Town Tourism hosted one of their most important events of the year – the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Around 200 industry members attended this prestigious event, which combined a review of 2010, the election of five board members and talks by several guest speakers.

Flow’s five-and-a-half-minute video, which covers the successes of Cape Town Tourism during the last year and in particular during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, was screened and met with rapturous applause.

The AGM was hosted by former Miss South Africa and popular television personality Jo-Ann Strauss, who spoke comfortably in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa and entertained the crowd with well-timed and often off-the-cuff quips. A true daughter of Cape Town, her love of the city was as apparent as her love of exquisite clothes.

The two weeks leading up to the AGM were tense ones in Flow’s Cape Town office.

General manager of the Cape Town office, Bronwen d’Oliveira, worked closely with Ryan Levenson, one of Flow’s Jo’burg-based graphic designers, to perfect the PowerPoint presentation delivered at the AGM – no small feat, considering the number of different speakers at the event, all of whom had visuals and text to add.

The end result was a slick, flawless series of slides that captured the audience’s attention with its Cape Town Tourism-branded colour scheme, without detracting from the speakers themselves, a lineup which included Cape Town Tourism CEO Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold and Chairman Ian Bartes.

On the other end of the spectrum, Media Developer Ingrid Sinclair (that’s me) and Graphic Designer George Xafis burnt the midnight oil in an effort to create the most inspirational video possible, which would highlight not only the organisation’s successes during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ but also the extent and scope of their journey before and after the tournament.

Featuring quotations from journalists, evocative photographs and fabulous music from Cape Town band CODA, the video served to communicate the extraordinary sense of community and unity that overtook Cape Town in June and July this year and showed just how Cape Town Tourism harnessed the collective energy of the city.

To make doubly sure that everything went smoothly, Flow’s Richard Frank flew down to the Mother City a day ahead of the AGM and served as adviser for the event together with Bronwen and Cape Town Tourism’s Aslam Levy. Richard’s technical know-how made everyone at the city’s tourism body feel at ease, and even calmed the nerves of his Flow colleagues.

Take a look at the video below – it’s likely to give you goose bumps!
