Flow Communications

Getting 2009 off to a creative start, Flow Communications has developed a website for a South African film and television production company, Left Hand Films.

This company, based in Johannesburg, prides itself on asking probing questions, taking risks and appreciating complex problems, both social and political.

In collaboration with Fort Greene Film Works, Left Hand Films has produced an eight-part documentary series, Saving Soweto,on the world’s largest hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath, in Soweto, which will be screened on Al Jazeera over the next eight weeks.

Flow graphic designer Ryan Levenson and web developers Richard Frank and Ruramai Nhapata worked together to deliver the site.

“It’s the first website we’ve built for a film production company, and it’s great to work in such a creative space,” says Richard.

“We used vertical navigation tabs, which gives the site its distinctive look.

“At the moment the site’s main aim is to advertise Saving Soweto. We decided to put the video trailer on the front page to capture people’s attention immediately and draw them into the site.”
