Flow Communications

Flow PR recently joined Federal Mogul, our new client that specialises in manufacturing auto parts, on a trip to visit some of the company’s production plants in KwaZulu-Natal.

The name Federal Mogul might not ring a bell to many consumers, but few would deny that at some point they had either used or been exposed to the company’s leading brands such as Champion and Ferodo.

Federal Mogul is a key player is the automotive sector, not just in the KZN province but in the southern African region as well.

A trip to Durban usually takes an hour by plane, but where is the fun in that unless you are the pilot? So we drove to KZN instead. The team included Federal Mogul’s internal brand managers, communications and marketing specialists, a product manager, and a representative from Federal Mogul’s creative agency, It’s a Go!

We made excellent use of the give or take five hours on the road to brainstorm and get a better understanding of the business from the internal experts. By the time we arrived at Federal Mogul’s plant in Pinetown, we already knew a great deal about the business. Some good communications and marketing ideas also emerged on the trip, and it was also a good opportunity for the team (internal and external) to bond.

When we arrived at the Pinetown factory, we had a quick introduction to the facility by the plant manager, and a questions and answers session followed by a tour of the plant. The same procedure happened when we visited the Friction plant the next day.

The entire experience was an eye-opener and the insight gained will be invaluable in communicating and marketing Federal Mogul’s programmes.
